Other war cemeteries on the territory of Iraq

ABU GHAR – war cemetery.
On the basis of Z.Dunin-Wilczyński’s study  named “ The Polish Army in Iraq, 1942-1943” , Warsaw 1993.
There was to be a mass grave of four Polish soldiers in an oasis 90 km away from the city of Nassirya. According to the author the information came from 1985 and it is not known if the grave has survived.

 

KIRKUK – war cemetery

On the basis of Z. Dunin- Wilczyński’s study named “ The Polish Army in Iraq, 1942-1943”, Warsaw 1993.
It is approximately 300 km  northeast of Baghdad. According to Z. Wilczyński three Poles  were there to rest. There is lack of information in the records of the Council for the Protection of Memory of Combat and Martyrdom.

MOSUL – war cemetery
On the basis of Z. Dunin- Wilczyński’s  study named “ The Polish Army in Iraq , 1942-1943”, Warsaw 1993.
The cemetery is situated about 400 km north of Baghdad. According to the author  29 Polish soldiers were buried there, however, he provides only one name stating that the matter needs to be clarified. The records of the Council for the Protection of Memory of Combat and Martyrdom do not contain any names of Polish soldiers buried in Mosul. According to the information provided by the Embassy in 1998 the cemetery was practically non-existent. All the tombstones had been smashed , leaving only a pile of rubble.
